Dr. Sketchys Anti Art School

Burlesque Life Drawing Comes to Augusta!

When many artists think “life drawing,” they think of sterile rooms, bad lighting, and bored, silent, models with nary a hint of personality. Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School is here to change all that.

Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School is the little New York art event that became a movement. Started in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple, the concept is simple. Artist’s draw glamorous burlesque dancers, compete in contests, and win wacky prizes. From it’s humble Brooklyn beginnings, Dr. Sketchy’s now has over 100 branches around the globe, including Los Angeles, London, Rome, Tokyo, and Melbourne.

Now, Le Chat Noir is bringing Dr. Sketchy’s to the Downtown area. The monthly sessions will feature burlesque babes, roller derby girls, drag queens and fetish models, along with contests, prizes and alcohol galore. Sessions held every last Wednesday of the month.

Since it’s inception in 2005, Dr. Sketchy’s has received coverage from the likes of The LA Times, The Washington Post, BBC Radio, NPR, The Village Voice, WNBC, Time Out London, The New York Times and most recently the local paper Metro spirit.

Want to model for us? We put all genders, all styles, and all body types on our stage, and if you have a talent to show off our sketchy artists want to see it! Send a message to the page and our Headmistress will get back to you soon to discuss details!

It Can't Happen Here

November 10, 11, 16, 17, & 18.  8pm.  $25.

A cautionary dark satire about the fragility of democracy and how fascism can take hold even in the land of liberty.  The play follows the ascent of a demagogue who becomes president of the United States by promising to return the country to greatness.  Witnessing the new president's tyranny from the sidelines is a liberal, middle-class newspaper editor who trust the system will fix itself - until he ends up in a prison camp.  Sinclair Lewis' 1935 novel gets a fresh update in this adaptation that examines what brings a citizenry to the point of sacrificing its own freedom and how a courageous few can prevail to overcome the fall.

The first musical from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County), this moving collection of powerful songs examines life, love and the choices that we make.
